D.C.-area women accused of trying to dupe Atlanta police
Two D.C.-area women tried to rip off the wrong people, police say.
Atlanta police say the two women were involved in a bizarre plot to steal personal information from police and fire department personnel.
Cintia Ximena Pedone-Allou, 30, of Beltsville, and Dawnetta Patrice Underwood, 23, of Laurel, were arrested Friday on charges of identity theft and racketeering.
Police said Pedone and Underwood visited Atlanta police precincts and fire stations last week pretending to work for Aflac insurance.

Their scheme was uncovered when one lieutenant noticed that their procedures seemed inconsistent with typical city policy, police said.
The lieutenant kicked the women out of his office then called the department’s human resources unit. Police officials contacted the city’s Aflac representative and determined that the women were not representatives of the insurance company.
Police contacted their alleged supervisor, Ugonna Onunkwo, in Prince George’s County and asked for the return of the forms the women had acquired.
Police reached Pedone by phone and she agreed to come to Atlanta police headquarters and turn over the documents.
The second suspect, Underwood, was found at a hotel near the Atlanta airport.
During questioning, Pedone and Underwood gave conflicting and inconsistent answers and explanations, and after a conference with the Fulton District Attorney’s office, investigators decided to charge the two, police said.
The man who answered the phone to Onunkwo’s Riverdale address on Tuesday told The Washington Examiner that Onunkwo sold insurance in Silver Spring, but he did not know how to get in touch with him.
There are no area Aflac listings for a representative named Ugonna Onunkwo.
Police continue to investigate, and have recovered 39 insurance packets with the sensitive information.
The women were taken to the Fulton County Jail, charged with multiple counts of identity theft and racketeering.
